Utilizing a Content Mode

The Content Modes within Club Central will allow you to view and edit your content in the various stages of its creation. Depending on whether a page has just been saved or published, the content that is visible on your site can vary. When making a change to the content of a page, the changes can be Saved in order to be finalized later, or can be Published if you are ready for the content to be viewed on the Live Site. This means that if the content changes have only been saved, they are not available for anyone to view except for you within Club Central.

Please select one of the following Content Modes for more Information

  • Edit Mode
  • Preview Mode
  • Live Site

Edit Mode

To create or edit content you will need to ensure that the 'Edit' mode, located above the Content Tree, is selected. Within 'Edit' mode, you will have access to the Content Area of each page within the Content Tree. The Content Area displays three editable sections, each contain information pertaining to the page you have selected in your Content Tree. The sections can be updated utilizing the Save and Publish buttons located just above the Content Editor tool bar.

Content Page Status

Once you are satisfied with the content changes you have implemented on a page, you will need to Save and Publish those changes in order to have them reflected on your site. The Content Tree provides a quick method to determine the status of the content on your site via the color status indicators. There are four status indicators which will dictate the current state of a content page.

This status indicator represents a page content that has not been Published on your site.
This status indicator represents a page content that has been Saved but not Published on your site.
This status indicator represents a page content that has been Saved and Published on your site.
This status indicator represents a page content that has been Archived on your site.
This status indicator represents a page content that is scheduled to be Published in the future
This status indicator represents a page that has a URL Redirect configured for it.
This status indicator represents a page that has a Linked Document associated with it.

Unpublished Content

When a page is first created on your site it will appear in your Content Tree with an Unpublished status. What this means for your site is the following:

  • The page will not be visible on your site
  • The content on this page has not been Saved.
  • The page URL is not currently active.
Previously Published pages can be reverted to this status by utilizing the Publish From and Publish To options found in the Form Tab.

Saved Content

In order to Save your content you will need to click on the 'green' Save button located at the top of the Content Area. Once a page has been saved, you have effectively created a new version of that page. That version will not yet be visible to your membership but will be visible to all Administrators and Content Editors. A content page which is currently in a 'Saved' state should be reviewed utilizing the Preview Mode prior to having the content Published to the live site.

Note: The only exception to 'Saved' content is Page Types, as any changes that are saved are visible to everyone immediately.

Published Content

In order to Publish your content you will need to click on the 'grey' Publish button located at the top of the Content Area next to the Save button. Once a page has been Published, all saved changes will now be visible on your site. The previously Published version of the page will be overridden with the changes. The Publish button will only be visible for a page if the content on the page has been Saved first.

Note: Previously Published content can be restored to the page. Navigate to How to Manage Page Versions.

Archived Content

Pages can be hidden from your site by utilizing the Archive button within the Content Area located next to the Publish button. An Archived page will not be visible on your site nor will the URL be accessible. In order to un-archive a page you will need to Save and Publish the page again.

Note: Content must be in a Published state before it can be Archived.

Future Published Content

If some of your content is time sensitive and should only be displayed at a specific date and time, a future publish date can be established to automatically publish the page based on preset conditions. This can be achieved by entering in a Publish From date and time within the Form Tab. Click here for more information on the Form Tab. The 'time clock' status icon will be displayed next to a page that is scheduled to be Published on a future date.

Redirected Content

Content Pages that have a URL Redirect configured in them will display a directional arrow status indicator. These pages will not have content on them as they when they are visited through your site, they will immediately redirect the user to another URL.

Linked Content

If there are multiple locations on your site that you wish to display the same content, this can be achieved by creating Linked Pages. This will allow you to update the content on one page, which will subsequently update the content for all Linked Pages. Within your Content Tree, any pages that are linked to another page will display the Linked Content status icon.

Page Tab

Within Edit Mode, the Page Tab is where the majority of content editing will take place. This is where you will have access to the Content Editor as well as being able to Save and Publish content changes. The content that is displayed within the Page Tab will be the last Saved version of that page.

Some examples of why a page may not be published immediately include:

  • The page is incomplete and not ready for viewing on the live site.
  • It is pending approval (where applicable).
  • You would like to create your page(s) ahead of time and you do not want the page viewable until a later date.

When you are editing the page, the Save button will always be visible at the top in order to save the changes that you are currently making. Once you have clicked on the Save button, the Publish button will become visible to allow you to publish changes to the Live Site. If the changes you have made are only saved but not published, the changes will only be visible to Administrators and Content editors within Club Central.

In order to review your changes, as if you viewing the Live Site, you will need to click on the Preview tab. This will display the Saved content on the page in a live site view which will allow you to see if any changes need to be made prior to Publishing the page to the Live Site.

Form Tab

Within Edit Mode, the Form Tab will allow you to edit the name of a page by updating the Document Name. You will also have to option to dictate the time frame in which a page is visible on your site by configuring a Publish From and a Publish To date.

Document Name

The Document Name of the page dictates what the title of the page will appear as on your Live Site as well as within your Content Tree. Once this field has been updated, Save and Publish the page in order to have the Page Title updated.

Publish From

Inserting a Publish From date will allow you to dictate when content saved on a page should be visible on the Live Site. Prior to the Publish To date, only the previously published content (if available), will be visible on the Live Site. If the content on the page has never been published prior to Publish From date, the entire page will not be visible until the date entered.

In order to set a Publish From date you will need to follow these steps:

  1. From the Content Tree, select the page you wish to edit.
  2. Once selected, click on the Form Tab.
  3. Set the date and time you wish the page to become published.
    1. To set a date and time in the future for when the page should be published, click on the calendar icon.
    2. To Publish the page instantly click on the 'Now' link.
  4. Once you are satisfied with the settings click on the Save button and then the Publish button.

Publish To

Inserting a Publish To date will allow you to dictate when the published content should no longer be visible on the Live Site. Time sensitive content would be a reason to set a Publish To date to ensure that the content is no longer visible on the Live Site after the date that has been entered. Once the target date is reached, the page will enter an unpublished state.

In order to set a Publish To date you will need to follow these steps:
  1. From the Content Tree, select the page you wish to edit.
  2. Once selected, click on the Form Tab.
  3. Set the date and time you wish the page to be unpublished.
    1. To set a date and time in the future for when the page should be unpublished, click on the calendar icon.
    2. To Unpublish the page instantly, click on the 'Now' link.
  4. Once you are satisfied with the settings click on the Save button and then the Publish button.

The Form Tab will also be used for editing Page Types, rather than using the Page Tab for all other pages. For more information on Page Types click here.

Preview Mode

The Preview Mode will allow you to view your Saved content as if you were on the Live Site. This will allow you to see if any changes need to be made prior to Publishing the content to the Live Site. When you are viewing your content in Preview Mode, you will not have access to the Content Editor or the Save and Publish options. These features are strictly reserved to the Edit Mode.

Mobile Preview

Within the Preview Mode, you will also have the ability to view your content as if you were utilizing a Mobile Device. The Mobile Preview option can be located at the top right of the Content Editor. There are 3 different device profiles in which your content can be previewed in:

Smartphone

Tablet

Laptop
Note: Because this Content Mode will display your content exactly as it would be on the live site, all URL redirects, scripts and media will function as they are intended.

Live Site

The Live Site mode will open another tab in your browser and navigate to the homepage of your site. This will display all Published content on your site from an Administrator perspective. This means that all pages (Public and Private) will be visible on your site, unless specifically denied by Administrators through Page Security. This will allow you to confirm that once you have Published a page within Edit Mode, the page and the most recent content changes are visible on the Live Site.
